How it Started!

Home Up

How it started....well me (Rachel) and Brianna started talking about the hard times we had been going through. Issues we had with friends and how our goals were the same, and it hit us we don't want to sit around anymore we want to get out there and reach others. We didn't know exactly where to start, all we knew was that we had to do something. I met up with Brianna at her house to talk about organizing a bible study or youth gathering. When I got to her house she was all smiles and said she had a crazy idea! I was excited, her idea was to have a young peoples gathering in her barn, a cool hang out for others to learn about God. So we collaborated with John Lanphear and Eric Dumont to help us formulate a plan. We scheduled to meet the following Monday night to get to work!  (MORE BELOW!)

THE NAME:  That week John was praying about this idea on his knees and asking God to bless it and give him ideas to help it grow.  He then asked God to even give us a name for it, and as he was waiting for an answer while pondering some of the comments Brianna and I (Rachel) told him about how it seems that so many churches focus so much on criticizing the youth instead of loving them, all of a sudden God just gave John a "down-load"-GET REAL!  The name just immediately seemed to fit!  Then as he was thanking God for the name he seemed to get the impression that there was MORE!  So he asked God if there was any more, of which the "reply" came back YES!  John asked God "what more is there to it?  It's not an acronym is it?"  The answer seemed to immediately come back as a YES!  John kind of sighed because acronyms can be really tough to come up with, especially with that many letters, so he told God "You are going to have to give me what it means then!"  Immediately the answer came down, "Go Everywhere To,  Reach Everyone Around in Love!"  WOW!  That's what I call "GETTING REAL" WITH GOD!  John presented that awesome "down-load" from God to all of us that first night and it just seemed to fit so perfectly!

THE LOGO:  The 2nd night we all met together to do more planning and start working on the barn.  While we were up in the barn, Erik, Mike, Travis, Doug & Sherri started clearing out some stuff stored up there.  john started dreaming about the stage area and how to put the GET REAL! sign on the barn wall behind it.  He suggested we use the top of the x-bracing on the wall as a border for the sign that made the shape of a triangle that kind of pointed to the center of the stage.  We all thought that was pretty cool, so we decided to go with it.  Then we were all talking a few minutes later when Brianna got a "down-load" idea from God!  She said "this may not be anything, but I was just thinking that if we used the bottom part of the x-brace on the wall also, it kind of looks like a hourglass and we could say something like "Time is running out, it's time to GET REAL!".  We all thought that was so awesome!  Later that evening Brianna, John and I were sitting at the picnic table wrapping up our notes while John started drawing the new hourglass sign.  We all started putting in ideas to refine it until we all agreed that it was perfect and destined to be our new GET REAL! logo!  Praise God!

With the help of God, family members, close friends and a lot of prayer we were able to pull this together. It turned into GET REAL, and yes a barn party.

Christís method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, "Follow Me."--The Ministry of Healing, p. 143. {ChS 119.3} -emphasis added

Let the workers go from house to house, opening the Bible to the people, circulating the publications, telling others of the light that has blessed their own souls.--Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 123. {ChS 114.1}

By personal labor reach those around you. Become acquainted with them. Preaching will not do the work that needs to be done. Angels of God attend you to the dwellings of those you visit. This work cannot be done by proxy. Money lent or given will not accomplish it. Sermons will not do it. By visiting the people, talking, praying, sympathizing with them, you will win hearts. This is the highest missionary work that you can do. To do it, you will need resolute, persevering faith, unwearying patience, and a deep love for souls.--Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 41. {ChS 117.5}

A Reformatory Movement  In visions of the night, representations passed before me of a great reformatory movement among Godís people. Many were praising God. The sick were healed, and other miracles were wrought. A spirit of intercession was seen, even as was manifested before the great Day of Pentecost. Hundreds and thousands were seen visiting families and opening before them the word of God. Hearts were convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit, and a spirit of genuine conversion was manifest. On every side doors were thrown open to the proclamation of the truth. The world seemed to be lightened with the heavenly influence. Great blessings were received by the true and humble people of God. --Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 126  Emphasis Supplied

It is in doing Christís work that the church has the promise of His presence. Go teach all nations, He said;"and, lo,I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."(Matt.28:18-20)To take His yoke is one of the first conditions of receiving His power. The very life of the church depends upon her faithfulness in fulfilling the Lordís commission. To neglect this work is surely to invite spiritual feebleness and decay. Where there is no active labor for others, love wanes, and faith grows dim. Quote from The Desire of Ages p.825-
